A prominent and well-known settler in the Iowa Territory, he was one of the earliest settlers in Rock Island. He spent much of his life involved in the early settlement of the Mississippi Valley and the "Quad Cities".
The present-day city of Davenport, Iowa, is named after him. During the next several years, he visited ports in the Baltic as well as in France, Spain, and Portugal.
In the fall of , shortly after arriving with a cargo from Liverpool, Davenport was arrested with the rest of his crew while in port at St.

Henry Dodge was born in Vincennes then under William Henry Harrison Sr. February 9, — April 4, was an American military officer, politician, and the ninth President of the United States.
He died of pneumonia thirty-one days into his term, thereby serving the shortest tenure in United States presidential history.

In the aftermath of the raid, Captain James W. Stephenson set out to pursue the attackers—a straggling band of Sauk Native Americans—but lost their trail at the Mississippi River.
The attack occurred in the same week as other skirmishes and raids, and as a result helped contribute to the growing fear in the region.
The raid caused the residents of nearby Platteville to consider fleeing their settlement. Plus a food court and fine dining establishment. Very clean gaming floor and hotel rooms. If you are a gambler you will absolutely love this place the hotel is very nice the amenities are very nice several restaurants everything from casual to upscale as well as a food court in the actual Casino.
I enjoyed my stay there I am not much of a gambler but even I had fun playing slots a little bit. Very very nice and helpful employees in the hotel and the casino.
Casino Sala Florida Santiago del Estero. Always love this resort!!! Surely going back as soon as possible.. Beautiful view, awesome people just all around relaxing place to bury your feet in the sand First time visiting to play bingo, which was a lot of fun!
The casino was very clean, many options for table games and slots. Was interested in playing blackjack plus 3 card poker but the table was full the entire time I was there.
Hopefully they consider opening more than one table for that particular game in the future. Will definitely visit again!
It was an average casino. Nothing too fancy or unique about it. There were bingo rooms, poker rooms, and large rooms full of slots and tables.
I went to see Stephen Wright perform, he did a great show but the seating was tiny chairs with no space between them. Many people were uncomfortable.
The thing that bothered me the most is that I got my ID checked at every single table I went to. Spa side quite nice, with generally very pleasant staff.
Found masseuse to be knowledgeable in addressing my specific issues. Extras like steam room, sauna, etc well maintained and clean.
Lots of tables to choose from and a lot of different slot machines to play. The buffet is pretty good and there are some small restaurants if you feel like having something else.
Casino floor is clean and the staff is very friendly. We had a party of 12 and she kept up on the drinks the entire time!
The food was pretty bland. I also wasn't too thrilled that they still allow smoking inside of the casino. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but I will probably not return.
Rooms are clean with ample space. The casino has a large variety of slot machines and table games. I've stayed here before and the one recurring thought I seem to have is that they could improve their customer service experience.
My cousin held his wedding reception in the Convention Center. Very impressive room space and set up. Just a few feet from gambling fun.
Definitely a good experience. I'm not drink in Casino. He then proceeded to turn into a horses ass and raised his voice like I was his child.
When I returned to meet my wife that was waiting in a line of 60 people to check in on a Friday night. I later found out that they only had one front desk person working when the hotel was booked.
That same Security guard proceeds to then tell me he need ed to search our bags for liquor and contra band??? If not we had to leave.
Needless to say we left and still awaiting refund. I will never return and don't recommend anyone else to go there as well. Went to the seafood friday and was impressed with the selection!
Be prepared to wait in line awhile, but it's pretty good food. The open layout of the casino is inviting. Allowing for many to enjoy without feeling crowded.
They offer a non smoking section as well. I enjoyed the variety of selection. They also offer valet parking.
Didn't win but it was fun playing. Best casino in Iowa. I always have fun here and the payout is much better than other places. Live Keno, sports betting, and Bingo!
Awsome place to visit and spend time at. Very cozy feel to it. Food is also real good at the buffet. The casino was fine and the staff helpful.
But the bingo staff were rude and did not help the guest. Wanted to purchase a shirt and the window was closed and we were told to come back in an hour.
We waited around for an hour and a half and went back just to find out they didn't open for anot her hour. The staff did not handle what I call customer service.
We frequent Meskwaki often and love every trip there. Great food choices whether you're looking for a quick bite, a steak or variety of items at the buffett.
The slots are wonderful too! Nice place to eat. If it were non smoking would have been perfect! Smoking is so disgusting and should not be allowed in public places.
The first impression of the hotel was nice. Nicely decorated lobby with a lot of Native American art. Unfortunately, the service at the front desk was not as great.
We waited in line while the 4 people behind the desk huddled behind one computer to fix the an issue with a customer on the phone.
It wasn't until the lady in the front of the line loudly stated that maybe she should call the hotel to get so easy service.
Two of the clerks came over to help. While the lady helping me was pleasant, the other clerk bordered on being outright rude to people in her line.
Upon reaching our room, we were happy to fingers a very spacious and comfortable rooms. While the pillows and linens were quite worn, the bed was still comfortable.
During our stay, we ate at Luckys Public and the Prime Cut restaurants. We found Luckys to have a fun bar atmosphere, and decent bar food.
The service was OK, but not the best. However, they did have a great selection of Iowa brewed beers. Our meal at Prime Cut ranked among the worst I've ever had.
The service was slow, our server was OK. Jason, the manager was a complete jerk. The food was what you would expect from an airport fast food place, not a "Signature Steakhouse" as they advertised it.
Having already experienced Jason's management skills, we chose not to complain. However, I can honestly say that I wouldn't eat there again if they paid me to.
Overall, the service was bad, the food was awful, and better gambling can be found at just about any of the other casinos in Iowa. I didn't stay in the hotel but we played at the tables.
Everything was great besides the waitresses didn't come around much. Once an hour maybe. Nice clean open space. Friendly and helpful employees.
Nice place to kill hours and pick up 2 to 4 hundred. The casino is large with lots of things to do, good service, exactly what I was looking for with friends on a Saturday night.
Even though I lost about five hundred dollars I still had fun doing it. Great casino to play at. Poker room is also a great time and very soft with many old people who are terrible.
One of the elevators was not working so we had to wait about ten minutes to get on. Breakfast buffet had a great selection but the food did not taste the best.
I love this casino. The staff with the exception of one female security guard with a power trip are very friendly and attentive.
I come here all the time and don't lose as much money as I do at other iowa casinos. The female security guard on a power trip can easily be avoided by not visiting when she has no real work to do.
This is not my favorite casino, but it's not bad. It's not as large as Prairie Meadows in Des Moines. Games variety is good, with a good selection of older and newer games.
There are not as many table games as most casinos. The on-premise eating is pretty terrible though. There's a steakhouse, food court, and buffet.
I've tried them all, and seriously they aren't worth it. Terrible school lunch quality food every time. Staff have been typical of most casinos, apathetic.
Though never had any problems. The attached hotel is fine, but also nothing great. They don't allow alcohol in your rooms, which is the first I've ever heard of such a policy.
Food was very excellent on Thursday friday and sunday slot tight thier are some that give a little, big hit in high roller room.
I had taken my mother nearly 9 months prior and we were appalled by the customer service, as well as the unfriendly demeanor of every casino employee we encountered.
I reluctantly decided to return and can honestly say, this place is horrible! Not only was my opinion the same as months prior, my experience was even worse!
I would be embarrassed and ashamed to ever take any guests with me to this place. I will never go back!!! We stayed overnight in the non-smoking Tower 2 North for 1 night.
We went to the Sat. The desserts were decent, although the cookies were on a warming stone that wasn't turned on.
There was an option for fresh omelettes but I didn't partake. I don't know why there are any reviews that rave about this buffet, it's one of the worst I've ever had from local casinos.
Luckily, this time we had a B1G1 buffet but I was still hoping lunch would be better. They don't allow many late check-outs, if any, on the weekends.
Normal check-out time is 11am. I requested it with my reservation 3 weeks before our stay. For us this defeats the purpose of a late check-out No other hotels I've stayed at across the country have ever done it this way.
I was told to call back anyway at 7: Disappointing but by this time I expected it. No noise from the hall or nearby rooms. Flushing the toilet in the rooms is extremely loud though.
I was in this afternoon and took a picture of myself and one of the fun displays. I was very rudely approached by the front security guard at the time.
Was it necessary to cause a scene? Once we are within speaking distance she proceeds to tell me about the no photography policy.
That I can take a picture of myself but not of other people gaming. I totally respect that and did not know of the policy.
I just wanted to know where this is posted, as I cannot find it on the casino grounds or on the website. I've never had a problem at other casinos.
I could have overlooked it somewhere. But if it is true, that I am able to take a picture of myself and not others gaming, I was perfectly within those guidlines.
I did; however capture incoming guests currently not gaming and the guard herself. If any form of photography is forbidden, then my apologies for I did indeed break that policy.
Overall in this experience; plain and simple: I did not appreciate the woman making a scene. A lesson in customer interaction or manners may be needed.
Had free hotel vouchers from the fair and stayed for two nights. The first thing you notice when you walk in the door of the casino is the overwhelming smell of smoke.
The smell stuck to everything and was the most unpleasant part of the whole weekend. The hotel room was clean and well kept.
The only issue was that the door did not close behind me so I would always have to pull it shut to make sure it latched.
The pool is open 24 hours so it was nice to come in late and be able to swim. The staff are very friendly and helpful and all in all it was a fun way to spend the weekend.
I always have a ton of fun here. Great food with great prices. Awesome hotel with caring and genuine staff, great pool and exc-room. Generous slots unlike the other guys.
Got a coupon at the state fair so we decided to try this place out. Rooms are nice sized. Staff is really friendly. Brunch was amazing, everything tasted great and was fresh.
We had an amazing time. They had a love band and they held off playing so that all the football fans in the house could watch the big game on sat night.
That really made our night!!! And at 11pm they kick the kids out and its adults only. Theu bave a really nice pool area and hot tub. I cannot wait to go back in a few months with some friends.
My wife and I visited the casino on the 31st. My wife had trouble with her players club card, and discussed the trouble with a worker by the name of Donna Barker, who told her that it is a "common problem".
The next morning we went back to the casino and asked for a supervisor. We were approached by two women who discussed the matter and took down our phone number and told us that the card readers "fail all the time" and they would look into the matter and call us with a resolution.
It is eleven days later, and we have not had a response from them. We feel that if they treat all there guests in this manner they should lose there guests' loyalty as there are several casinos close by that do not treat there guests in this manner.
They certainly will not see us in there casino again, and we will spread the word among all of our acquaintances as to the way that we were treated.
Friendly workers, good food, hotel rooms are nice. Offers Live keno, racebook, slots, table games and poker. Nice lounge with free entertainment!!
It always costs about a third of my tank to get there and back from Cedar Rapids, and I didn't win this time The suite was expectedly understocked with soaps and shampoos, but pleasant, and quiet.
I even got so comfortable, I may have accidentally traded HDMI cables with my ps3 from their cable-tv. I believe mine was better, but, no loss.
I don't make the trip often, but overall it was fun. I didn't spend much, but enough to think I probably should have come home with more.
Great Casino but they seem to take my money more than other casinos I go to. Bingo is the best aspect of the place. Just went for the buffet.
Good choices friendly staff. Stay away from the pepper steak lol. Fun casino all the staff members are always nice. Table dealers are fun.
Good poker tournaments but the players are a bunch of donks though. Good variety in slots. Rooms in good shape.
Pool is large and my child had a blast. Overall a good experience. I was just passing though and made a quick stop to gamble.
My overall experience was pleasant and enjoyed the free complimentary. Everything was great with the hotel.. As I was on my way to check out, a lady, by the name of Allison, was on the phone.
She didn't even look at me when she told me, rudely, that there is a line where the other front desk worker was. I went and got in line. Allison got off of the phone, didn't tell us to come over to her..
The guest that she was trying to help told her that I was in front of them. I walked over to Allison and her smile and attitude completely changed.
She was short with me, rude, and did not try to be helpful with me at all. I will never come to this hotel again. I am a guest.. I will also tell my family and friends to never visit that specific hotel.
The staff went through next days openinings so I had a choice of what to get. Pool is ideal for families with a nice patio and outside area. If you like to walk or run, you have area to do so.
We hope to bring the grandchildren here next time coming thorugh Iowa. On the casino, not much in winners and they need to pick up cups.
But do like the fact that you can go to a fountain machine and get your own free soft drink. The hotel was nice as was our room. We stayed one night.
We ate at the jackpot buffett which is open really late. Although we at at 7: The meat was cold and tough. They gave you a butter knife to cut it and we couldn't cut through the meat.
We had to fill up on desserts to get full because it was the best food out of the whole buffet. The casino atmosphere was just as bad if not worse.
There were plenty of people in the casino but you didn't hear a lot of people talking, yelling or anything. You didn't hear machines hitting on anything and that's exactly what they did The atmosphere was not our style.
We won't be going back there. Disappointed with this casino. We decided to eat in the Amana Colonies on our way home as we've been there before and knew they had good food.
We had to go to 3 different floors to find an ice machine that worked! The the Meskwaki security staff made it impossible to feel welcome and it felt like I was entering a prision instead of a casino, especially when they followed me throughout lobby for an unusual length of time.
I tried to enjoy my casino experience with a card game in the poker room, but the floor person perpetuted the cold inhospitable prison like domain with his unfriendly commands when he directed me to my seat.
I ignored his poor manners and went to play poker. When I was finished at the poker table, I made my way to the lounge in the inside the poker room.
To my surprise, I was integrated by a poker dealer proding at me as to why I was watching TV instead playing poker. Again, I ignored the staff's inhospitable customer service, and contiue to mind my own business.
After I had my fill of unfriendly and inhospitable casino staff, I could not bear anymore and left.
It is more like an instituion run by abhorrent staff. The the Meskwaki security staff made it impossible to feel welcome and it felt like I was entering a prision instead of a casino.
I tried to participate in the casino experience with a card game in the poker room, but the floor person perpetuted the cold inhospitable prison like domain by pointing to a table and commanding to be seated to a live poker table.
Again, I ignored the staff's ignorance, and contiue to mind my own business. Unlike some reviews we found the staff to be friendly and helpful.Even when it's full it doesn't feel crowded.
